February Challenge #1

The time has finally come to reveal the first challenge for February! The prize will go to the best layout for the month so I hope you all have a go at this awesome challenge!
Music: We all listen to it, we all love it, we all feel something different from it!
We here at SBS HQ use music as our muse, and wish to share and share alike on the inspiration front!
Every month, twice a month, we will throw out 2 song verses.
Your job?
To take your favourite, interpret it YOUR WAY and scrap yourself a fabulous layout!
The best layout from the month wins a delicious pack of goodies!
Please email your completed layouts to Songbird Scraps at songbird.scraps@gmail.com
So without further ado, the first two lyrics to choose from for Febs 1st Challenge are:

Lucky - Jason Mraz
I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
Lucky we're in love every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday

and

Long Way Home - Tom Waits
You know I love you baby
More than the whole wide world
You are my woman
I know you are my pearl
Let's go out past the party lights
Where we can finally be alone
Come with me and we can take the long way home
Come with me, together we can take the long way home
And now for the examples by the Creative Team girls...

Layout by Jane Smith

Layout by Kirsti Brandis

Layout by Chiquita James

Layout by Shelly Williams

Layout by Peggy Schenkels

Thanks for coming by and I can't wait to see what you all come up with for these challenges!

Until next time, take care

Introducing Shelly Williams and Skye Johnson

We were impressed with Shellys interpretation of the lyrics and her clean layouts!

In her own words...
My name is Shelly Williams, and I have been scrapping for approx 7 years. I am completely addicted to this craft!
I am 33 years old with two gorgeous girls, and a swag of nieces and nephews who feature regularly in my layouts.
My other interests include dogs, reading, camping, and I am delving into the world of photography too.

I love trying new techniques in my scrapping, but love 3D work/fiddly stuff, with some stamping and stitching thrown in too.
I can't wait to meet even more fellow scrappers through this experience!
Skye Johnson has been a Songbird from the beginning! She will be joining us in March after returning from an overseas holiday!
In her own words:

Hi! I'm Skye! Soon to be 25, from Melbourne, Australia.
I am a Fashion and Textile design student and I love photography!
I have a collection of cameras, including several Polaroids - my absolute favourites to play with!

I have only been scrapping for a year, but much like the other ladies, it has become an obsession!

The only thing that is growing as fast as my addiction, is my stash!
As for my style - it changes with every layout, everything from very very basic, right through to complicated, 3d, collage type layouts - whatever my mood gives me that day really!
I'm really excited to be joining the Songbirds team!

I didn't have time to do framing etc for my own photo guys, so I do apologise for that!
The first challenge will be posted on the first of Feb and the team are already working hard at it, so be sure to check back for any updates or teasers!

Thanks to everyone who has been leaving comments and making the team welcome!
It is much appreciated by all of us!

Introducing Jane Smith and Kirsti Brandis

Jane was our very first applicant! She had us in awe of her beautiful brights and individuality!

In her own words...

This is so exciting for me as this is my very first Creative Team!

My name is Jane Smith (and yes that is my real name!)
I live in Mount Gambier South Australia which a beautiful country town in the south east of South Australia.
I am a wife and a mum. I work in quite a demanding job, albeit in a part time capacity.
I was looking to balance my life out a little bit and finally found some 'me time' in scrapbooking.
I love playing with photos and all the fab products that are forever coming onto the market.
As far as my style goes - anything goes!!
There are so many styles and artists I love I can't seem to settle into a style.
I love blogging and find myself spending hours checking out other scrapbooking blogs. I am so happy to apart of the Songbird Scraps CT and I'm looking forward to the challenges that are coming my way!!

Kirsti's unique and beautiful vintage, shabby chic style caught our eye as soon as we opened her application!

In Her Own Words...

My name is Kirsti and between my wonderful partner Wayne and I we have four children - CJ (17), Luke (15), Rachelle (7) and Ashlea (3).
I've been scrapbooking for about 4 years now and my style would have to be a mix of whatever is inspiring me at the time!
I love the soft vintage look at the moment and am always passionate about flowers.
When it comes to hobbies the only one I seem to have time for is scrapbooking!
:o)

Please make the girls feel welcome!

Be back tomorrow with the last two team members!

Introducing Peggy Schenkels and Chiquita James!

Peggy blew us away with her amazing style and original interpretation of the lyrics, especially since English is not her first language!

In Her Own Words:
My name is Peggy.
I'm 37 years old.
I'm a SAHM to 3 beautiful little angels (most of the time!) a boy, Yannis (9) and two girls, Chloƫ (8) and Christina (almost 7).
I've been together with my husband Kurt for 18 years now, and I'm happy to say I love him just as much if not more than ever!
We live in Antwerp, Belgium, a wonderful place to live.
I first started scrapping last year, around March 2008, but my addiction (yes, all you scrappin' ladies know what I am talking about!!) really took off when I joined a scrapbooking community where I met some lovely ladies sharing my passion.
At first I was only looking for a way to combine the thousands of pictures I take a year, with some kind of journal to leave my children, but it soon became more than that!
I try to put something of myself in every page I make, I aim to make it as personal as I can.
As far as style is concerned, I can honestly say I don't have one. I go where the picture or my mood at the time take me, and I like it that way.
I like the fact that every page looks different, and even I don't know beforehand what a page is going to look like. Once I'm working on a LO, it tends to start leading a life of it's own, and rarely ends up as I had envisioned.
I'm gradually learning more techniques, and my favorite one, besides doodling, has to be stitching, I do so like the look and extra value it gives to a LO.
I prefer to make my embellies, titles and such myself, and I always try to make embellies that one way or another are related to the topic.

Chiquita - or Chic created her beautiful application pieces while hooked to a heart monitor and impressed us by using the experience in one of her layouts!

In Her Own Words...
Hi fellow scrappers, my name is Chiquita James and Im a bubby at only 28 years.
:-)
I have been married for 4 years and my husband Adam and I have 2 gorgeous children, a little cheeky boy Javaan (nearly 3), and a baby girl growing up way to quick at 9 months, Indiana.
My scrapping addiction began 2 yrs ago when I was invited to a Creative Memories class.
The bug hit me right there and then.
Its a tough call deciding which is my bigger addiction... Scrapbooking or buying scrapbooking supplies!
I love discovering new techniques, and trying to incorporate them in my layouts, which means that my style is constantly changing.
I find it hard though to drag myself away from using flowers, just one of my many addictions.
I even someotimes dream about how to place my next layout! It has been known to keep me awake for hours. Sometimes even if its 3 am its just better to get up and do it will my mojo is fresh!
I'm not a pretty photo scrapper, I am a sentiment scrapper.
I chose moments, then the photo of the moment beautiful, or not, and record in journalling so I and my children can look back and reflect. My babies are a constant source of inspiration to me and I hope in turn I can be an inspiration to all of you.

Susie is away at the moment due to a family emergency, so please bear with us while we try to make the blog run as smoothly as possible!
I thank you all on behalf of both Susie and the team for your lovely comments and support while we have been launching the site!
It is much appreciated from us all!

Thanks!

x

Their interpretations of the lyrics were amazing!
We are so glad to have them on board and hope that you will support them by taking part in our challenges!

Everyday for the next week, we will be introducing you to one of our girls, and showcasing their applications so you can get to know a little more about them!

It's Over!
The CT call ended at midlight last night, and as expected we received a few new applications right on the stroke of midnight!

We're Nearly There!
We have had some more great applications come in over the last few days and our excitement is building!
Remember you have until midnight TONIGHT to get your applications to us!
(just under 14 hours away - plenty of time for 2 layouts, or to finish something you've already got in the works!)
To be honest, we'll probably be in bed by midnight, so if it happens to take you until 2am, we'll probably let that slide!
We've got a tough choice ahead of us, but we're looking forward to seeing Songbirds soar!
(thanks for that line Shelly, we really like it!)
